Step one has been accomplished, I’ve found somewhere to live in London. I’ve moved into a large shared house with about 20 odd residents mostly from the southern hemisphere (i.e. Oz, NZ and SA). There’s quite a large industry over here based on catering for various travellers looking for short term accomodation.
Unfortunately, I was looking forward to escaping other Aussies and meeting some locals but I haven’t had much luck on that front so far. Still, its only a matter of time and until then its nice to have the well established support networks for Aussies travellers to rely on. It is nice to have my own space and my own bed again for the first time in quite a while. So I’ll just concentrate on enjoying that and seeing what kind of entertainment a large household of strangers can provide.
Next step is to find some work of some descript. This is the important part. Hopefully it won’t take too long, otherwise I might end up back in Oz before I know it…either that or selling my body in some seedy part of town. Let’s just hope it’s the not the later because I don’t know how well updates about that would go down (and would probably get filtered out by spam filters anyway).
Anyway, otherwise no real exciting stories to tell as yet. Except maybe to come clean on having been to a WalkAbout (for those not already familiar they are a chain of Aussie pubs in London with a highly unreputable history) and like so many dodgy nightclubs/pubs, i.e. The Metro (yet another highly shunned, Melbourne establishment), that I’ve been to in my life I ended up having a damn good night of it. Still, I’m not planning another expidition there in the immeadiate future.
Otherwise, London is treating me well. Plenty of site seeing has already been ticked off. I’m slowly getting to know my way around the city. It is nice to be in a city that has so much history bursting from every seam. But, I still seem to be humming to myself the words of the great oz song writer Paul Kelly, ‘every f**king city is just the same’. On the surface every city is just full of people, cars, buildings and rubbish. That is why I’m staying here though, to hopefully get to know somewhere a little more then just concrete deep. Then I might find some other quote to plagiarise for you.
Anyway, hopefully I’ll have some more exciting news sometime soon.
